Coronavirus
I have been watching the progress of recommendations and area school choices closely in recent weeks. With schools closed and confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus in Austin, Jenna-G Music will be moving to remote, e-learning, and videochat lessons, at least through the end of March. Anyone with lessons scheduled today (Friday, March 13) may coordinate with their teacher to decide if they would like to continue as scheduled or take advantage of a digital lesson, likely over the weekend or early next week.
Lessons may look a little different for a moment, but will bring some wonderful new challenges and opportunities for learning. Not every student learns the same way. That’s why I will be working closely with teachers to provide a variety of resources, materials, and approaches for lessons that aren’t in-person. A few examples may be:
Scheduling times for a video chat lesson via Zoom, Facetime, Skype, or Google. All that is needed on the student end is a phone, tablet, or computer with video chat and their normal lesson materials.
Students may send videos of themselves playing their pieces, scales, and exercises and teachers can create videos of techniques to fix and improve, written instructions, youtube or website links, etc.
For students who may be travelling or away from their instrument, teachers may create e-learning assignments focused around music theory, history like composer biographies, note reading, notation, or listening challenges.
I will also be more active via e-mail, phone, and especially on our social media accounts to provide as much help, information, and fun learning opportunities as I can. With so many people home, it may be a great time for some extra lessons, or feel free to pass our information to friends who may need student activities as well.
Sincerely,
Jenna
